Zavod za Podvodno Arheologijo – ZaPA
The Institute for Underwater Archaeology is a private non-profit institute that brings together archaeologists and other experts in underwater heritage from various Slovenian archaeological institutions and private entities. We are united in the fields of protection, research, promotion, and presentation of underwater archaeological heritage. Currently, the institute is the leading body in underwater archaeology in Slovenia, drawing knowledge from over a hundred years of accumulated experience in Slovenian underwater archaeology. Our work also involves the implementation of methodologically and technically demanding projects, including research conducted in conditions of poor or zero visibility, fast river currents, and cold or contaminated water. Additionally, we strive to highlight the significance and diversity of underwater cultural heritage in Slovenia through our participation in various exhibitions, lectures, experimental archaeology projects, and international events.
